If you're anything like me, then you miss the days of discovering new music through radio shows and MTV. Sure, the internet and social media have completely changed the way we consume, discover and listen to bands (arguably for the better), but there was just something truly magical about hearing a song on the radio for the first time, or seeing one of the "World Premiere" intros before a new music video started on MTV's 120 Minutes. I can still remember how I felt when I first heard Type O Negative as a kid in junior high (who was staying up WAY too late in order to listen to "industrial" radio that would only play in the middle of the night). Or how excited I would be to watch last night's episode of Headbanger's Ball (which I had to record on my parents' VCR and PRAY that the VHS tape wouldn't suddenly stop in the middle of the show, forcing me to miss the second half. Yes - that happened to me several times, and they are still childhood traumas!). Of course these types of experiences have been replaced with other, much more convenient ways to discover your next favorite band, but I personally miss the chase, and haven't been as excited about these "new" ways...until now.
Enter the brand new "Higher Frequencies" podcast, from our friends Blackcraft Cult and Smoke Blackcraft. When Blackcraft owner Bobby Schubenski first hit me up and pitched me on the idea behind a new podcast he wanted to start called Higher Frequencies, I was already sold on wanting to be involved somehow. Which is how, and why, Rockabilia jumped on as the main title sponsor of the show without even hearing the first episode. Simply put, Higher Frequencies is all about helping you discover your next favorite band. Bobby expertly curates the best of the best when it comes to underground, unsigned bands, and presents them in an easily digestible and fun format, where you can't help but feed off his energy and excitement for these undiscovered acts. So of course we're coming along for the ride, because just like Bobby, there's nothing I love more than new music.
You can hear the Higher Frequencies Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts - Apple Music, Spotify, etc. (or just click this link: https://linktr.ee/blackcraftcult), and be sure to check out our current Smoke Blackcraft merch here:.
We hope you dig the pod and new tunes as much as we do, but if not? Well at least we CAN all agree on one thing: MySpace still reigns supreme when it comes to all the new bands we found in the internet age. But all the Facebook Event Invites from any and every band you ever liked on FB, no matter what state they were happening in? We don't know where they went exactly, but we hope they all died fiery, miserable deaths.
