This series of stylized bears was drawn by Bob Thomas as part of the back cover for the album ''History of the Grateful Dead Volume One (Bear's Choice)'' - 1973. The bear is a reference to Owsley ''Bear'' Stanley who recorded and produced the album. Stanley later clarified that while the bears are commonly perceived to be dancing they are actually doing a high step march. It's a lot more fun to imagine the bears dancing along to the music!
