David's aggressive plectrum style of bass playing has been at the foundation of MEGADETH's vast catalog of metal classics, including "Symphony of Destruction", "Peace SellsBut Who's Buying", "Hangar 18", and "Holy Wars.. The Punishment Due", to name a few. But David's presence and Midwest roots have also been felt in the Megadeth catalog in other ways via songs like "Mary Jane", about the local Jackson urban legend of Mary Jane Terwilleger, a young girl in Loon Lake Cemetary, long rumored to be a witch, and "Foreclosure of a Dream", a Mega-hit inspired by the harsh realities of the Ellefson's farming lifestyle in the fields of Minnesota.
In 2016, David and Megadeth enjoyed a Billboard hit with their 15th studio album Dystopia which landed in the #3 spot, culminating in a triumphant 2017 Grammy win for Best Metal Performance. Far from their first major accomplishment, Megadeth has been awarded numerous gold and platinum awards, 12 Grammy nominations and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide during the span of their 35-year career.
