Nik Kershaw was a member of a number of semi professional bands in the UK during the early 80s. When the last of these bands split in 1982 Nik decided to embark on a successful solo career, with Nik quickly signing a major record deal in 1983 and issuing his debut solo single the same year; I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me. This single was a hit although not on its original release. It took a second single Wouldn't It Be Good to become the major breakthrough that Nik was looking for and a reissued I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me was re released and quickly became a major hit.
