This edition presents the long unavailable LP The Genius After Hours, originally released in 1961 by Atlantic Records with the reference number 1369. All of the songs were taken from the same three studio sessions that generated the 1957 LP The Great Ray Charles (Atlantic 1259), which marked his second studio album for the Ertegun brothers� label. It features three tracks in a septet format conducted by Quincy Jones, plus five more in a trio setting, where Charles is backed by the great Oscar Pettiford on bass. He would only record with Charles on one other occasion: the 1957 LP Soul Brothers, on which Ray shared the frontline with Milt Jackson.
