Thelonious Monk Orchestra

At Town Hall Vinyl

At Town Hall Vinyl

One of Monks very few albums with a big band!

Additional Information
The 1959 Town Hall concert was a singular event for Thelonious Monk. In October of 1958, while en route to play a gig in Baltimore, Maryland, Monk, his friend the Baroness Nica de Koenigswarter and saxophonist Charlie Rouse were arrested on drugs charges and Thelonious lost his Cabaret Card for a second time. This banned him from playing in New York clubs where alcohol was served for twenty months, and only allowed him to perform at concerts halls. One of the most memorable of these shows was the Town Hall performance.
