Tie-Dye is (obviously) not new. In fact, we here at Rockabilia have personally been selling Grateful Dead Tie Dye Shirts since we first formed back in 1987, and it was a trend LONG before we ever came along too. But in the past year, how and why did it explode to become the biggest thing in fashion right now? Not only has every brand jumped on the bandwagon, but so has every BAND (that’s where we come in). Sure, again - it has ALWAYS been prevalent in deadhead culture with bands like Phish, etc. And we even saw a brief little explosion of “scene” bands like A Day To Remember using it in the mid-2000s. But now? Bands in every genre imaginable are releasing tie-dye merch designs, from black metal & death metal acts, to hard rock bands & rap artists, and literally everything in between. So…what gives exactly?
Although no one has any REAL definitive answer or anything, it is being theorized that, just like all sorts of other weird crazes that have popped up since the COVID-19 Pandemic hit (wtf is a “rock snake” exactly?), tie-dyed hoodies, T-shirts, and yes…even sweatpants, are just kind of a thing now. Some experts are trying to draw parallels to the tie-dye craze that happened in the 1960’s & 70’s. Just like we all saw in 2020, those years were filled with demonstrations, protests, riots, etc., and you know what they say: art & fashion imitates life. It is also being considered that the “hippie” mentality is something that lots of people tried to adopt during the past year, and by focusing on love and positivity (vs. all the negativity and bad news that 2020 brought), everyone opted for brighter and more “fun” clothing in their wardrobes. But…is that what is actually going on here?
Look, we’re not going to lie to you: we don’t have all the answers either. We’re not really here to try and explain rock snakes, or tie-dye, or tell you how to spot fake art in Animal Crossing. We’re here to sell you tie-dyed anything, because it’s 2021, and apparently you need tie-die EVERYTHING. And although we’ve got plenty of tie-dyed rock tees, hoodies, and long sleeves that we’re currently selling, we thought we’d take this opportunity to give you a sneak peek behind the curtain at what NEW dip dyed and Tie Dye Band Shirts will be hitting Rockabilia.com very soon. We hope you enjoy this world exclusive first look at what’s coming up:
As you can see, these new tie-dyes are to die for, right (see what I did there)? And the best part is...that's just the tip of the iceberg.
So as 2021 trudges on, hopefully we see the death of Zoom (#sorrynotsorry), we can all get off the banana and sourdough bread carbo load diets (maybe?), and we can all put a little less time into Animal Crossing, and a little more time into going to those things we used to call "concerts." And once we do, things will most likely look like they always did…
...except for the fact that we’ll all be wearing full on tie-dye sweatsuits…for some.odd.reason.
Peace,
-Rockabilia
